The introduction of the new Peugeot 308 sedan at the 2007 IAA Frankfort Motor Show was enhanced by the presentation of a streamlined sport coupe concept car, the Peugeot 308 RC Z.

While some body styles for the Peugeot 308 are already confirmed and in development, some are still yet to be created and are currently only in the imagination of the designers and engineers whos are so passionate about cars. Nevertheless, their ideas sometimes come together to give life to even the most fantastic ideas. In such cases their dreams finally become reality, making way for part real, part fantasy automotive designs. The results of such ideas is the 308 RC Z concept car. That is what we read in the Press Release of the 308 RC Z leaving place for some speculations about the future of this striking concept car.

The 308 RC Z is a 2+2 coupe with true versatility and at the same time a style that is modern, modern and well balanced. The attention on making the vehicle as light as possible was translated by the use of numerous aluminium components, for example the two roll over protection bars that separate the passenger compartment and give shape to the exterior styling, and the use of a polycarbonate rear window and a large number of carbon fibre body parts.

Using the 308 as a blueprint offered a number of benefits and the possibility to share components. Overall dimensions are 428 cm length, 184 cm width and 132 cm height.

The stylish design of the front recalls the front of 308 sedan and blends in the proportion of the concept car. From the front, the style lines flow upwards back over the bonnet and into the two polished aluminium roll over protection bars. Visually, the fluidity of the design is further enhanced by the way the large windscreen, the carbon fibre roof panel and the polycarbonate tinted rear window are combined together. The specific shape of the rear window with two curved sections required the use of polycarbonate rather than glass. The front headlights contain four cylindrical lights each in the clear glass headlamp lenses.

The styling of the side of the 308 RC Z is quite aggressive with prominent wheel arches joined by a bulky lower body section.

The 308 RC Z is powered by a 1,6 litre THP engine extrapolated from the engine designed and developed via a collaboration between PSA Peugeot Citroen and the BMW Group . Maximum power output is 218 bhp and 300 Nm . There is a Twin Scroll turbocharger and the gasoline engine operates with high pressure direct injection. The engine is connected with an entirely new six speed manual gearbox.

Claimed performances include a top speed of 235 km/h and standing start to 100 km/h in 7,0 seconds. Acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h takes 7,5 seconds in 5th gear. Fuel consumption is 6,7 litre/100 km in combined cycle. CO2 emission is 160 gr/km.
