The Lancia LC2 was prepared in 1982 to participate in the 1983 Group C World Endurance Championship season defined by the FIA. The Lancia LC2 was developed by Lancia Racing Team with Dallara and comprises an aluminium monocoque structure with Kevlar and carbon fibre composite body panels. The aerodynamic of the Lancia LC2 was constantly improved which explains in particular the different front elements.
The engine is originated from Ferrari that also pertains to the Italian Fiat Group. It is a  four valve per cylinder 90° V8 that will be updgraded for its competition purpose by Lancia Racing Team. Starting its career with 2,5 Litre capacity and a turbocharger it will produce 620 hp. Just like the aerodynamic of the car, its engine will be further developed to 3.014 cc capacity and will produce up to 680 hp and 70 kgm maximum torque. Claimed top speed of the latesd version is 360 kph. Weight is announced for 850 kg.
The car is raced with Martini sponsorship from 1983 to 1986 while two private models will continue until 1989 under Gianni Mussato guidance.

The Lancia LC2 has proven to be extremely fast with several pole position in major races but reliability was not the strong point and the car did not always finish. At Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race it finished 8th overall in 1984 with Wollek-Nannini and 7th overall in 1985 with Pescarolo-Baldi-Cesario.
In 1983, the Lancia LC2 won the 1000 km of Imola and finished second at 1000 km of Mugello and 1000 km of Kyalami.
In 1984, the Lancia LC2 won the 1000 km of Kyalami and in 1985 the 1000 km of Spa.

Between 1982 and 1985, five Lancia LC2 were built.
