The Bugatti Type 59 was the last pre-war Grand Prix racing car by Bugatti and faced fierce competition from German and Italian GP vehicles that benefited from government financial support.

The Bugatti Type 59 was gradually improved and the last version had an aluminium T50 eight cylinder twin-cam engine with 3 Litre capacity and a supercharger. The T50BIII engine developed 230 kW/275 hp.

The car with smooth aerodynamic body appeared at the Cork Grand Prix in England in 1938, hence its designation “Cork- car”. Its last appearance is reported at the 1939 French Grand Prix.
