Aston Martin C Type Speed Roadster Bertelli 1939

The famous racing ang sports car manufacturer Aston Martin was established in 1913 and despite very low production numbers at the time it has been one of the legends in automobile history since the 1920s on account of spectacular sporting successes. The name is derived from the name of the “Aston Hill” hill-climb race and the surname of one of the founders of the company, Lionel Martin. Starting in 1938, eight sports cars were created on the chassis of the two-litre Speed model with body designed in accordance with the latest research in aerodynamics.

The first car of this type was presented at Earls Court Motor Show in 1938 and the other seven cars were built before 1940. The Speed Model was the second car produced and has an eventful history. It was tested by motoring magazine The Motor and was sold soon afterwards to a private individual in Scotland. After several changes in ownership, it was taken apart during the 1960s and the body was mounted on a Jaguar chassis. Work on completely rebuilding the Aston Martin C Type Speed was started in 1980 and this work was carried out entirely with original parts.

The current owner, Giuseppe Redaelli from Italy, restored this rare Speed Model to its present authentic status. The Aston Martin C Type is propelled by a 1950 cc four cylinder engine. The Aston Martin C Type was entered at 2012 Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza.
